Circulation Assistant Position at the Avon Library

22.5 hours per week, including an evening and Saturday rotation

 


Performs responsible and varied paraprofessional duties in the circulation
of library books and materials; assists patrons, students, and staff in
using library facilities, resources and services, and performs varied and
responsible library clerical work.

 


Performs circulation desk duties, including charging and discharging library
materials, answers telephone calls and provides information as necessary.
Assists patrons in the use of the library's catalogue and reference
materials, answers reference questions as able; locates information or
guides patrons to source materials.  Performs work in various library units,
including desk coverage duties, children's, reference, or as assigned.
Performs general office clerical tasks.  Regularly returns books and
materials to shelves and storage sites.  Periodically weeds collections,
removing outdated or damaged books and materials.  Participates in building
the Library's collection of books, periodicals, and audio-visual equipment
and materials.  Evaluates library materials based on knowledge of community
needs, review of professional journals and literature, and library policy.  

 


The skills and knowledge required would generally be acquired with an
Associate's Degree in Library Science, or graduation from high school with
one year of public library experience, or an equivalent combination of
education and library experience.

 

Reports to the Circulation Supervisor

 


$16.9559 - $20.6100   (hired prior to 7-1-96)

$16.4616 - $18.1705   (hired after 7-1-96)
