While providing services in an inclusive public library setting, workers
encounter a broad range of patrons-some of which may have behavioral or
mental health issues. No matter what department you work in-frontline staff,
manager, facilities-you'll be sure to take away tips from this all day
program.

 

*	How to design/foster a safe, public environment 
*	Understand and recognize common mental health issues
*	Techniques to de-escalate a situation
*	What to do in case of an emergency

 

The morning panel will have professionals from the mental health and social
service fields:

*	Remi Kyek, Director of Residential Services, Mental Health
Association of Connecticut 
*	Nic Scibelli, LCSW, Director of Adult Service, Wheeler Clinic. 

 

In the afternoon, a panel of library professionals who will discuss
strategies/policies that have worked successfully in their libraries:

*	Daniel Richmond, Head of Facilities, Russell Library, Middletown 
*	Bernadette Baldino, Director, Easton Public Library
*	Michael J. Daly, Chief Security & Investigations, Queens Borough
Public Library

 


Panelists will share their expertise, and will be followed by Q&A and
general conversation. If you have a particular safety issue or concern you
