The New Haven Public Library announces an *Encore Summer Travel Series
*beginning
Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 6pm with a film, *Syria: Between Iraq and a Hard Place
* (2004; 50 min.; directed by Saul Landau), which will be followed with a
discussion led by New Haven Board of Education member Richard Abattiello,
who toured Syria this year. Audiences are invited to enjoy samples of
Syrian cuisine compliments of New Haven's Mediterranea Restaurant. RSVP to

A 2-part series on Cuba opens on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at 6pm, with a talk by
Cheryl Roby, who recently returned from a humanitarian trip to Cuba that was
sponsored by the Key West Botanical Garden. Roby will share her memories of
the countryside, architecture and the people of Cuba. The series continues
at 6pm on Thursday, Aug. 21 with a screening of the classic 1968 Cuban film
*Memories of Underdevelopment, *directed by Tomas Gutierez Alea (Spanish
with English subtitles).
On Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 6pm, the Rev. Allie Perry and Patty Nuelsen will
share their *Impressions of Iran*, following their trip this year as part of
a delegation of citizen activists seeking first-hand understanding of the
country.
There is no charge for any of these Summer Travel programs at New Haven
Public Library, 133 Elm St, and free parking is available. For more
