Dear Sue,
I have recently joined the Waterbury Rotary Club and have decided to get
involved in one of the projects known as Project Amigo. Spanish language
or bi-lingual English/Spanish children's books (not school textbooks) are
sent down to Mexico so that mini-libraries can be set up in schools. Here
is a description of the program:
http://www.projectamigo.org/VOLMain.htm#JanWorkWeek
I called Lynda Hammond, the former President of the Hamden Rotary Club,
who traveled to Colima, Mexico where Project Amigo is located, and she
spoke highly of it.
I will be traveling to Colima as well in two months and wanted to bring
some Spanish language or bi-lingual children's books with me. Could you
keep your eyes out for any libraries that are discarding these types of
children's books? The books could either be sent to your library, mine at
NVCC or if it's not too far I could go and pick them up. In order for me
to take them down to Mexico with me I would need the books by July 25.
After that I could still accept the books but I would mail them to people
in California who would bring them to Mexico. Thanks for your help.
Sam
