The Connecticut State Library and the Connecticut Library Consortium present a NEW workshop:
Black Belt Librarians: Security that Works!
Warren Graham, a nationally renowned expert on day-to-day library security procedures, will present an exciting full-day program on creating a more secure work environment. No matter what department you work in at your library, you won't want to miss Warren as he presents this interactive and entertaining workshop. Topics to be covered include how to advise patrons of rules in a way that will most ensure compliance and how to recognize the levels of emotion that a patron may be in and how best to respond. Also to be covered are the essential elements of a truly effective library security plan. By utilizing the "real world" suggestions that are offered by Warren all levels of library staff will be able to handle problem patron situations with more confidence and authority.
At the end of this session, participants will:
Know the maxims of security in the library
Have a strategy for documentation of security problems and incidents
Know the essential elements of a truly effective security plan
