NELINET, presents:

Getting Started with Digital Collections

**To be eligible for future LSTA Digitization grants we highly
recommend attending the training session. Future LSTA Grant
recipients’ will be awarded priority points when grant applications
are scored**

Digitizing materials can increase access to your rare or special
collections, expand your user base, preserve fragile materials, and
raise public awareness of your organization. Become acquainted with the
issues and concerns entailed in a digitization project through an
overview of relevant topics such as collection assessment, metadata,
copyright, and technical requirements. Understanding what's involved in
the development of digital collections will help you make the right
decisions about your collections and digitization projects.

You will learn about:
Collection assessment
Intellectual access
Standards
Technical issues
Copyright
Preservation

Your instructor, Erin Logsdon is the Digital Solutions Consultant for
NELINET providing consulting and education services in digital solutions
for libraries. She has an MS in Educational Media from Portland State
University and an MLIS from Simmons College. Erin began her library
career as an elementary school librarian and has worked in a variety of
library settings. Her interests and expertise include taxonomy,
usability, project management, Web 2.0 technologies and metadata.
