CorvAircraft> I found a core locally for $350 should I buy it?

This is a classic case of "how much is your time worth". If you have
already looked high and low and are giving up trying to find one,
then maybe your time is worth more than the $250 extra you would be paying.

But, that means you're betting $250 that you won't happen to attend a
local Corvair meeting and find someone pulling up with a trailer like
this

behind them, ready to sell everything for a pittance. By the way,
this was in Irving, Texas in December of 2004. My very first meeting
at a Corvair club.

Corvair people never just own one car. They have a bunch of them,
with more parts stashed away all over the place. It's an addiction,
and once you find the Corvair Addict, you've probably found not just
one $100 core, but several.

As I was unloading the 1966 Corsa turbo convertible off a transporter
(I got bit by the bug
toohttp://www.davemorris.com/Photos/Cars%20Corvair%20Corsa%20Project/IMG_0242.jpg),
a stranger pulled up and asked me if I wanted another Corvair that
was parked in his friend's yard a few blocks away

I could have had it for practically nothing, but it wasn't the right year.

If you still have 18 months before you are ready for an engine, and
you haven't been networking with a bunch of Corvair addicts yet, if
it were me, I would keep looking. They are out there, you just have
to find them.
