CorvAircraft> Fuel injection for Corvairs

Some data points for you from the certified world. I've been
examining this recently in the difference between similar airframes
(in this case early Mooney models) and their Lycoming O-360 versus
IO-360 engines:

Carb
1. If the carb is installed in such a way that it gets direct heat
from the engine block, the ability for carb ice to form is so
drastically reduced that the need for carb heat is virtually
eliminated. My CFI with 4000 hours in Mooneys instrumented his carb
with a temp gauge for years, and told me not to use carb heat the way
I would have in a C-172.

Fuel Injection
1. Several recent incidents of plugged injectors or spiders, causing
INSTANT engine failure and dead-stick landings. Doesn't happen in a
carb system. Some freezing of injector lines due to position in
cooling air stream with resulting need for air deflection baffles.
2. Injectors can produce more consistent fuel/air mixtures across
cylinders, resulting in an ability to lean past peak EGT and derive
huge fuel savings and more power.
