Michael,
I would be very interested in seeing those pics if you get around to taking
them. What you have there sounds exactly what I am planning on doing except
I will be running direct drive. The clutch plate will only be isolating the
crank from the thrust loads as well as damping some of the tortionals
(hopefully!).

The gear redrive I have has a splined shaft arrangement. The gear box has
the
shaft sticking out, and the alum. flywheel/starter ring has a center piece
fabricated from the center piece of a clutch plate, including the
dampeners -
this piece allows for a bit of float.
