Exactly right, Clare. Simplicity is a good thing. The best carb I ever had
on my soob was that $20 Holley 5200 out of a Chevette. Like a fool, I
swapped it out later for the Holley 2300 with McNeilly mixture plate etc.
and gained no performance to speak of, gained about 6 lbs and my wallet
was about $700 lighter.

For you lads that are needing carbs and are seriously interested in getting
an engine running rather than banging away endlessly on a keyboard, you
might consider that Harley/ Zenith sidedraft carb that I used and Murray
Green is using now. They are under $300 new, they are simple to install
and get adjusted right and they work well. I hate messing with carbs and this
one ran like a charm. Ebay has nice ones for under $100.

Basically too complex. We do not need the tuneability required for a road
racing car - for phenomenal accelleration through corners and all that
stuff.
Which means we don't need the extra parts and weight. We don't need dual
throats. Lots of stuff there we don't need, particularly since they are not
altitude compensating, do not provide for simple in cockpit mixture
adjustment, and will not provide us with any tangible performance
improvement over some much simpler, lighter, smaller, and generally less
expensive and complex alternatives.

Clare,
Thanks for your imput, I am curious what you meant by "OVERKILL for our
use" to large? to complex?
