Clif,

You might have copied the wrong link. The 1408 cannot be that J&P carb. Far too small at 18-24mm. However, the 16P12 looks to be very similar. 38-40mm, adjustable main jet. The picture on the Zenith page is rather small, but it does appear to be the same.

Now, it does say for 60-75 ci engines, which would only be (approx) 980cc-1200cc. But if the carb is going on a Harley, which has only two cylinders, that would mean it's feeding individual cylinders in the 490cc - 600cc range. This would seem to be more than adequate for a Corvair. Either way, David and Murray have proven it is.

On a side note, the Great Plains 1821 is supposed to be the Zenith 267, and you can get more info on that carb at the same site. You can reference Han's previous email regarding his experience with that carb.

Have a good day,

Ryan

With a recommend engine size of 25-110 cubic inches, that wouldn't appear to
be the best match for a 165 cubic inch Corvair engine. The 267 (which has
flown on many VWs) looks like a better choice, with a range of 100 cu to 250
cu. Thanks for the link though. Lots of good things have been said about
the Zenith carb over the years.
