Lads, we're doing our annual Sun n Fun BBQ again this year.
What, Where, When and Why......then How.
WHAT: BBQ pork tenderloin on a bun, cole slaw, potato salad, chips and salsa
and a dill pickle etc. To streamline the process, we're doing it all inclusive
this year....a $10 donation per head gets you the food and two beverages of your
choice. Beer, wine, water, soft drinks and juices will be available. After that, all
drinks $2. each. No BYOB permitted. Bring a lawn chair if you have one.
Someone usually wins a copy of AC43-13 via a ticket draw and sometimes
friendly sponsors contribute other handy items for extra draws. A WW
engine building manual and subscriptions to Contact magazine have been
won before. Singles, couples and families are welcome. We've fed up to
85 people before, but will likely keep it down to about 50 this year. Yeah,
right. :-)
Where: We are easy to find in the Overflow Camping area with the entrance
just opposite the Campground Host's Kiosk. The free transport trams will bring
you right to the Host's Kiosk on the Brown 2 route. Look for the Award Camping
trailer with the Canadian Flag flying out front. We're usually parked along the fence
facing the threshold of runway 9 but cannot guarantee that spot. Ask the Campground
Host where we are. ( He remembers us well from year to year)
When: Friday night, April 11th anytime after 4 pm. We usually go into the night till
about 10pm and often later.
Why: We started doing these BBQs about 2002 after having a frustrating time
getting a group together for an evening dinner etc. the year before. We all agreed
to get small groups together and about 20 of us were to meet at some restaurant
Lakeland. Some got lost, some couldn't hitch a ride, some miscommunicated and
by the time we got everyone together, we had to wait an hour and a half to get in
the restaurant. Never again. On site is where it's at. Avoid the huge crowds and
driving under adverse conditions. It's a good formula and there's always planes
flying around and good people to be with.
How: By RSVP to me directly off list dstroud at storm.ca State how many bodies
in your party and the preference and estimated quantity of beverage for each
person in your party. We need to know this because our final shopping day is
Thursday. We head South around the end of March this year so your RSVP
needs to get to me before that, but the sooner the better. Please treat your rsvp
with some respect, we spend money to serve you. If you can't make it due to
last minute changes in plan, no sweat, but at least try to let us know by leaving
a message with the campground host or some other popular reference like
William or Pat. If you need to add to your rsvp while on site, get the info to me
one way or another. Find your way to our trailer and leave a note if you can.
Stop and put your feet up even if we're not there. There'll be a cold one waiting
for you in the cooler. :-)
This party is in no way intended to be competition to on site food an beverage
vendors, but instead, an alternative to going offsite trying to feed a group at a
public restaurant.
Any questions or RSVPs....please do if offline to dstroud at storm.ca Thanks.
