Hellooooooooooooooooooooooooo Tampa Bay Parrot Heads –

Whooooooa – I have not done that is a while.  That felt pretty good.  Anyway, as everyone knows by now we have a big-ass FloriDaze Beach Music Festival coming up in May (www.floridaze.org) that is going to be absolutely awesome!  Parts of the event are the live and silent auctions that will be held on Friday evening, May 16th.  The event is called “The Manatee Ball – A Sea Cow Soiree”.  All of the proceeds from this will be given to Save the Manatee Club (SMC).  Some of you newer members may not know that we use to put on a Manatee Ball each year.  We did this for about 6 or 7 years and to date have raised and donated over $125,000.00 to SMC.

In addition to the auctions, this evening will be the Official Release Party for “SAVING PADDY DOYLE – It’s Up To You!”.  This is a CD that is an official project of our club and something I have been working on since 2005.   Here is a brief history of the project:

One day in 2005, a few months after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, I was speaking with Judith Vallee, then Executive Director of SMC.  I asked her how things were going and if all of the monies that were being sent (understandably so) to help Katrina victims in the Southeast were affecting the monies SMC needed to operate.  She said to some extent it was.  A couple of weeks later I came back to her with the idea of putting a Manatee CD together and inviting some of the wonderful TropRock groups we knew to create a song for  it.  That, along with the idea of writing a story in between the songs to educate people about the plight of the manatee became “SAVING PADDY DOYLE – It’s Up To You!” Each artist was asked to donate his song to this project so SMC could raise valuable funds for their ongoing educational and public awareness programs, as well as their manatee research, rescue and rehabilitation projects.  They all signed on to this project without hesitation.

Here is a list of the awesome artists who created and donated a song for the CD -

Jack Mosley, Patrick Foy, Sunny Jim, Jim Morris, Jeff Arthur, Jeff Pike (A1A), Jerry Gontang (Stars on the Water), Rob Mehl, Dennis McCaughey (Tropical Soul), Gary Roland (Landsharks) and Jim Mayer (Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band) aka "Uncle Jim".

100% of the monies raised from the sale of the CD will go to SMC.  We are planning and hoping that all of the 11 artists above will be able to join us on Friday night, May 16th.   It will be a wonderful opportunity for you to meet them all and hopefully purchase a gazillion copies of the CD.  I am sure they will be glad to sign it for you.  There will probably never be another opportunity where you can meet them all in one setting.

So the purpose of this e-mail is for those who have already bought your tiks to FloriDaze to make sure you mark down Friday evening as a “can’t miss” event and to please check with your friends to make sure they have registered.   And for those of you who have not registered and purchased your tiks yet and may be undecided, I would like to strongly encourage you to do so which will enable this event to be even bigger and better.  It is going to be one of those moments in the history of our club that we will remember forever!  It is my understanding that right now there are over 200 tiks sold and the cut off is less than 300 and I am not sure if we will be able to increase that number due to the capacity of the room where the auctions will be held. So don’t get left out.  I really hope to see everyone there.
