Kayak and Canoe Float Trip - Weeki Wachee
Saturday, August 29th

The Weeki Wachee river is a spring fed river that runs about 5 miles when starting at the Weeki Wachee State Park.  This will offer a slow current along clear 72 degree water.  Along the way there are numerous places to stop and wade, swim and jump out of trees for the daring.  Because it is a State Park, alcohol is prohibited.

While there are deep spots along the river, in most locations, even an accidental fall out of the kayak or canoe will leave you able to stand safely and/or make it to the side to reqroup.  The biggest concern might be ensuring your belongings are secured and stored in a dry bag if necessary.

For some, paddling up river first may be desired.  For this, the starting location would be Rogers Park.

To accomodate both interests, the timing should be staggered with the people starting at the State Park beginning around noon.  Those starting out the day paddling up river would meet at Rogers Park around 8:00 am.  It's meant to be a relaxing day on the water in nature however, so if the timing is not coordinated exactly, there will be plenty of opportunity to meet up on the rvier along the way.

At this point, the float would be best designed for a casual outing for those interested.

If for some reason there was enough demand we could seek out a location on the water so we would have a formal place to stop (and legally drink).  This would be the option I would recommend for any outings we might consider for next year.
