We have been using it for many years and have not had any "reactions" to it. I have had a couple of non-responders, but not nearly as many as I used to have with saccrine. Also not any issues like I used to have with irritant smoke when we tested the olde HEPA face masks.

Our respirator fit-testers have found that they can avoid the Bitrex taste
lingering by using petroleum jelly or other similar barrier on their lips
while testing and wearing vinyl gloves throughout the testing procedures.

We have tested about 400 with Bitrex over the past 2-3 years. No known
problems of any kind.

The taste does linger and is hard to get rid of, though – after washing
hands and face, several hours later, taste can recrudesce when eating
(unrelated!) food (noticed by tester).

We have used Bitrex for about three years. (700-900 fit test /yr),
So far I have never encountered anyone with an allergic reaction but
we have many with no sensitivity.

            Dear List,
I have just become aware of two employees that are claiming
"allergic reactions" after fit testing with Bitrex. They
apparently saw their personal physicians, so I have very little
information at this time. Now other employees in the same
department are concerned and a few have refused to fit test.

I have not found much in the literature, only one case report
from 1980 that suggested asthma and urticaria related to
Bitrex. The MSDS sheet says that Bitrex has mild irritant
            properties.

What are others using Bitrex experiencing?
