As a best practice standard, we update Tdap on hire if not current. Departments such as Engineering/Environmental Services also needs it since they are working with construction, plumbing, etc. We do the same for Varicella status.

Any thoughts about updating HCWs' Tdap as a best practice for selected areas of the hospital...for example, ED, OB, pedes, and employer-sponsored daycare center. In the past, we had offered it to these departments and reportedly there were few takers.
According to CDC, the 2014 provisional rate was 9.1/100,000 population nationally, and here in SC it was 3.3 (157 cases).

For varicella, our current policy is obtaining titers on those with a self-reported history of disease or documentation of a full course of vaccine. We are offering vaccine to those identified as being susceptible.

CDC's recommendations are pretty straight forward. http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/adults/rec-vac/hcw.html But they don't necessarily address practical considerations. If you respond directly to me, I will summarize all for the lists.

Thanks
