Hi Terri J

There is talk here about the same.  When it started I sent out a listserve to CHA hospitals – only a few were doing random – I believe in Texas.  Some of our stumbling blocks are

The number of randoms to do (as they are not DOT) – this kind of depends on the philosophy behind the screening – is it seen as a deterrent or is there concern about a huge problem

The inclusion of employed physicians

How to include staff who work only nights or weekends.  Also staff at off sites (40% of our work force)

I have been asked to start doing random drug testing.

Is anyone doing this (not DOT)?

Willing to share learnings, policy, procedure…anything?

Terri

Janice moved from USAMRIID a few years ago but is a great resource.  While the MMWR is helpful and at Eagleson June conference a couple years ago we had CDC there to present the MMWR piece and a number of work groups to review it there, the surveillance part leave lots of questions and Roger at UC Davis has had some cases of late and so has de facto become very deep expert in this area.

Janice Ruznack (spelling?) at USAMRIID is a good resource. I believe they sometime will even facilitate providing the vaccine under an IND protocol if the work is high risk.

I would appreciate any suggestions or references/resources that members of the listserv could suggest.

Thank you.
