Subject: [MCOH-EH] Medical staff compliance with vaccination requirements

·         Do any of your organizations require compliance with your immunization requirements for active/inactive medical staff/LIPs during initial credentialing or recredentialing?[Kantner, Brenda]  Employee Health reviews the immunization records for new credentialing. (mostly contracted) Nothing for re-credentialing. We are a small system. Immunization requirements are essentially the same as for employees.  (attached) We do not supply testing or vaccines through Employee Health. We do meet resistance on occasion. Some LHCP’s tell me that when they were credentialed at other campuses, they did not have these requirements.

·         Do you provide this service in your occupational/employee health department?[Kantner, Brenda]  no

·         Do you charge the medical staff or LIPs for this service or provide it free?[Kantner, Brenda]  N/A

·         What do you do if the do not comply..does it hold up their credentialing?[Kantner, Brenda]  has held up credentialing on occasion. There are occasions, based on urgency, that administrative decision allows testing/immunization by on site OccHealth after they arrive.

[Kantner, Brenda] I have been told that some hospitals contract an outside agency for immunization review and other reviews for credentialing.

We are proposing to make this part of the credentialing packet.  We have always required it, but didn’t sink any teeth into the program and have a dismal compliance rate as we were only requiring an attestation to be signed without documentation.    Would appreciate any guidance in this area.   Thank you!!!
