Subject: [MCOH-EH] animal research and hepatitis B vaccination

Hello all,

I have a question specifically to those at research institutions who oversee larger animal care medical surveillance programs:

Animal care technicians and researchers working on animal protocols who are not otherwise clinically at risk for human blood/OPIM exposure would not typically be included in the group offered the Hepatitis B vaccination.  However,  we are now seeing an increase in the expansion of animal protocols to in some cases include administration of human cells and/or viral vectors.

Do those of you who encounter this situation at your institution include animal care technicians and researchers working on these protocols in your Hepatitis B program and provide training on Blood/OPIM precautions to them?

Thank you,
