If by fitness for duty you are referring to suspicion based drug and alcohol testing only (there is of course much more to full FFD than that); then my answer is that at UCLA Heath System we went today to an on call service that arrives within an hour to do both breath alcohol and urine drug test collection for expanded health professional panel testing 24x7x365 and no longer involved Occupational Health except that we set up the policies and procedures in collaboration with Medical Staff for MDs, selected the vendor, hold the contracts and pay the bills, and do the staff and faculty training.

We have trained our afterhours nursing supervisors to assess and manage fitness for duty  and use an afterhours drug testing service if COC UDS has to be performed.  We also have EHS nurses on call every night to assist if there are questions.  JoAnn
