We have a “special” code we use for basic xrays so the employee is not charged. We pay the Radiology group $9 per xray from the EHS operating budget. Labs and cultures for our acute care and Occupational
health are done in EHS at no charge to the employee. Lab accounts for our volume in their productivity report via a unique EHS field. No billing is involved. Employees must register in admissions and file with insurance for MRI, Mammograms, CT, ultrasounds,
and other diagnostic ordered by nurse practitioner. If its related to a work injury, we use a code so that it is accounted for internally only and not sent to the WC TPA for payment.
We are trying to set up a “no bill” interface with our TPA so our A1Cs and other preventive screens can be accounted for in the TPA database so they can give accurate claims data to us on employees in compliance
with preventive screenings.

We send out for our xrays (they are not done internally)
We send outside for labs
BBP labs done internal are coded without emp name
EH has their own medical records..we do not use the hospital system

Interested in knowing how other organizations handle Employee Health access to electronic medical records relating to treatment of employees for work-related injuries. For example, employee is injured at work
and Employee Health orders x-ray. Can Employee Health view radiologist’s report in employee’s EMR? How about when an employee has a blood-body fluid exposure and has initial labs ordered by the ER. Can Employee Health access those lab results in the EMR
to determine appropriate follow-up? Do other organizations require Employee Health to access records of medical testing for work-related injuries only through the Medical Records Department?
Thank you
