Yes, I understand that the questionnaire is for medical stability but most of the questions refer to wearing a tight fitting mask that may make if difficult for
some to breath whereas a hood is not constrictive. The biggest challenge is if the worker is claustrophobic and even then I have not found anyone who has difficulty with the PAPR. Is anyone aware of a different questionnaire depending on what mask you are
going to wear? I also understand that the questionnaire is an OSHA mandate, therefore we do the questionnaire annually but use the same questionnaire for both PAPR and for N95. We use PAPR’s except for the OR staff who must be tested for use of N95 masks.
Thanks for your input.

We do new hires when they come for Occupational Health visit. A vendor comes in to do the annuals once per year in July. Individuals who were not previously fitted and have
have a job transfer during the year
To a position that requires the fit testing, schedule an appointment with Occupational Health to complete that requirement.

Amy,
We are
very limited on the number of people that do fit testing, so we moved the fit testing to due by date of hire. This prevented the clumping of 300+ people all trying to get fit tested in the same month that everyone’s performance review was due. All new
hires are tested at the time of the post offer pre-employment exam.

Subject: [MCOH-EH] N95 Fit Testing Process
Happy Friday,
We are moving to a new performance management system. Currently employees are evaluated in the month of their hire date. All of their annual requirements (fit testing, competencies,
etc.) are to be completed prior to their review and if they are not completed the employee does not receive any increases they may be entitled to until it is completed. This has worked fairly well in ensuring people keep up on their requirements. The new system
will have everyone being reviewed in the same time frame. We are looking at whether it would make sense to do the same with our fit testing. Designate a month and crank out all the fit tests and be done. Then you address new hires as they start. There are
pros and cons to either method.
What are you all doing? What has worked well? Would you change? Have you recently switched to one system or the other? If so, why? Really any pearls relative to this experience would
be most appreciated.
