There are concerns as to whether monitor variability could worsen test scores from web-based color vision screening. If a practice is going to screen for color vision, and if one chooses to use computer-based testing, I recommend retesting anyone who "fails" with certified printed materials before further evaluation, much less restriction.

That said, I certainly agree that (ongoing) competency evaluations by a supervisor  in the actual work setting are more meaningful and appropriate. It's quite analogous to hearing FFD evaluations IMO:  We can do audiometry, evaluate medically and advise on optimizing acuity, but the supervising nurse will be the key to assessing whether the employee can actually respond safely to alarms and communication needs in the workplace.
