A Call for More Light Sermons
MLP house party hosts step up to the challenge to Come Out for More Light
It's only been a few days since we sent out our email call for MLP
supporters to host house a house party on October 9 or 10, but already we've
got party hosts signed up on both coasts and in the midwest, with
parties in Michigan, California, Georgia, New Jersey, and elsewhere. MLP has
scheduled our first "house party 101" host training conference call on
September 2, so sign up to host a party now and you'll get to join the first
training session.
Our Coming Out for More Light weekend of house parties on Oct. 9-10, which
will include national conference calls and a Q&A session with MLP leaders,
is our big national event for the fall, so if you've ever wanted to invite
your friends over for a party and support MLP at the same time, here's your
chance. Go to www.mlp.org/comeout/host.html and sign up online, or email MLP
house party coordinator Bruce Hahne at hahne at io.com for more information.
MLP's Vigil for Justice begins: Spiritual preparation and renewal leading up
to General Assembly 2006
2006 will be a big year for the More Light movement. As a way both to
prepare for General Assembly 2006, and to begin to heal the spiritual wounds
that many of us carry from the ongoing prejudice embedded in the
Presbyterian Church, MLP announced the Vigil for Justice on August 15.
>From now through mid-2006, the MLP Vigil for Justice web site at
www.mlp.org/vigilforjustice will feature new resources, available at least
monthly, that you can use for prayer, silent witness, spiritual renewal and
solidarity. The first resource is already available - it's the text of
"Justice Knows no Season," the prayer by Lisa Larges and Marco Grimaldo
offered at the impromptu witness at 2004 General Assembly, after the vote to
remove the PCUSA's anti-LGBT "authoritative interpretation" failed by a slim
4 votes.
More Vigil for Justice resources are coming soon, so watch the site for more
over the next few months.

The web team at MLP.org is now ready to accept job announcements for
positions at More Light churches, welcoming churches, and in other
organizations with ties to the LGBT equality or progressive church
movements. Email your job description, with a PC(USA) CIF number if you know
it, to news at mlp.org and we'll format it for publication on our site as a
news item. There's no fee; this is part of our service to the Presbyterian
LGBT community.
A Call for "More Light" Sermons
We are offering a call for "More Light" sermons that extend the Gospel to
all, hold before our Church a theology of hospitality, and seek to provide a
word of welcome and affirmation to all God's children, including God's
lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender children and their families and
friends.
Please send such sermons electronically to MichaelAdee at aol.com, or by mail
at 369 Montezuma Avenue # 447, Santa Fe, NM 87501. MLP wants to receive,
collect and make such sermons available within our network of churches,
chapters and members.
You are invited to send in your own sermons, of course, and those of others.
We often receive requests for these kinds of sermons from seminary students,
campus ministers, clergy and church members. This "call for sermons" will
help MLP and the welcoming church movement build our archival resource for
teaching, education and inspiration.
These more light sermons can be old, or new. Or, remember this call and
after you preach or hear a more light sermon, send it in. You can view our
current sermon archive, with recent additions from the Welcoming
Presbyterians Conference, More Light Sunday, and a commitment ceremony in
Billings, MT at www.mlp.org/resources/sermons.
