MORE LIGHT PRESBYTERIANS LAUNCHES ANNUAL GRASSROOTS ACTION DAY
First "More Light Sunday" is June 6 - dozens of
churches nationwide expected to participate.
MINNETONKA, MN, April 7, 2004 - Celebrating its 30th anniversary as
the oldest lesbian / gay / bisexual / transgender (LGBT) equality
organization in the PCUSA, More Light Presbyterians (MLP) today
announced the launch of "More Light Sunday", an annual day for
gay-friendly Presbyterian churches, More Light churches, and
Presbyterian supporters of LGBT inclusion nationwide to take action to
advance the cause of LGBT equality within the PCUSA. The first More
Light Sunday will be June 6, 2004. Nationwide, More Light churches
and supporters will incorporate LGBT-specific liturgy into worship
services, conduct MLP membership drives, host MLP house parties, and
start conversations within their church communities about LGBT
concerns using MLP's newly-released Hearts & Minds video series.
"More Light Presbyterians was born as, and continues to be a grass
roots organization," noted MLP co-moderator Bill Moss. "More Light
Sunday is a day of solidarity and a day of action for our grassroots
supporters all over the country. More Light supporters are in every
Presbytery, in every city, and we're united for one cause: winning
full equality for LGBT people within the PCUSA."
"More Light Sunday is a great day for Presbyterian churches and
individuals to stand up and be counted in their support for the More
Light movement," said MLP co-moderator Donna Riley. "Now is the time
for all of us to stand together for equality, stand together for
fairness, and stand together for the gospel."
To promote and enhance the More Light Sunday activities of grassroots
supporters, MLP has launched a More Light Sunday web resource kit at
www.mlp.org/morelightsunday , complete with inclusive worship liturgy,
detailed guides for organizing an MLP membership drive or house party,
and event-listing and photographs sections for supporters to list
their More Light Sunday plans and submit pictures of their events.
