Imagine same gender loving, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Christians with allies and friends simply showing up to serve and live into the Gospel of Christ that calls us to care for our neighbors in New Orleans. We had such an extraordinary experience last fall serving in New Orleans and with the continued need, we have committed to return to New Orleans this fall.
Our team will offer labor under the guidance of skilled crew leaders. No experience is necessary and only a willing heart and spirit is required. Work clothes, gloves and sturdy shoes are all that is needed in terms of relief work supplies.
You choose the dates that work for you within the RainbowCorps 2007 schedule of the mission service week of November 12 - 18, 2007 . Come for the weekend, November 16 - 18, or the entire week. The per diem cost to cover food is $20 with $10 for students and persons with limited income. The host church has created free accommodations on site for mission work teams. Local transportation will be provided.
RainbowCorps is a combination of mission service and a spiritual retreat. Sue Laurie, Reconciling Ministries Network, Chicago and Michael J. Adee, More Light Presbyterians, Santa Fe, are the retreat leaders. After a day's work, there will be the option of evening visits to the French Quarter for Cajun meals and jazz.
The host church is First Presbyterian Church, New Orleans, an open and affirming church. Cliff Nunn serves as pastor and hurricane relief coordinator. The church is at 5401 S. Claiborne Avenue , New Orleans , LA 70125 . (504) 866-7409 www.fpcno.org
