From john at seldomseenfarm.com Fri Dec 11 04:24:51 2009 From: john at seldomseenfarm.com (John Ferree) Date: Fri Dec 11 04:35:57 2009 Subject: [SeldomSeenFarm] Veggies and the Future Message-ID: <4B223A13.6020406@seldomseenfarm.com> What can I say. . . ? We've been a little busy. Between the warm November, Laila, and farm there is plenty going on. Much of it is planning for next year. We're going to be putting more land into organic transition. On the order of 30 acres more. The attached image gives a view of the farm and what we will be managing. That increase means a lot of things, and there's plenty of office work to go around this winter. Crop rotations, cover cropping plans, equipment purchases, irrigation infrastructure, crop plans, seed ordering, and farm operations manual all need to be finished before we see another 60 degree day. This year has been tough. The combination of weather and Laila and continued expansion have certainly made us weary, but also taught us a good deal. Thanks to everyone for your continued support. . . even when we were short handed at a market or so tired that putting together a coherent sentence was a challenge. For next year, we hope to expand our Community Supported Agriculture program. Our experience this year was very positive, and we hope to make it a central part of the farm through an expanded delivery area. We especially encourage Trader Point Market customers to look into the CSA for 2010. Our participation in the TPOF market for next year is in question. There are a great many regular customers at the market, and for that reason we have been slow to make the decision to stop attending for the summer. This decision is not yet in stone, and there are a number of puzzle pieces that need to be assembled before anything is certain.
