Gadgets for Librarians - Nov. 9th (WLSC)
There has been an explosion of gadgets in the technology market, and its quite difficult to keep track of them. In this workshop, we will demonstrate various handheld devices such as iFlip cameras, tablets (iPad), eReaders, and smartphone. We will explore some of their uses in the library, as well as tools for buying the device that best suits your needs.

If you own a cool gadget, feel free to bring it along and participate in our "show and tell

Anatomy of a Webpage: HTML Decoded - Nov. 9th (WLSC)
Hypertext Markup Language is one of the programming languages used to create web pages. If you use Frontpage or Dreamweaver, knowing HTML will allow you to tweek or troubleshoot your page quickly. In this class, we will translate HTML coding into simple English and create a web site from scratch. You will learn how web sites work, basic tags, and "Meta" elements. No HTML or Web experience necessary!

Tech Tools for Digital Storytelling & Library PR - Nov. 15th (Simsbury PL)
When we think of traditional storytelling, telling tales around a
campfire often comes to mind. And it's those same storytelling skills that are an essential part of giving any sort of effective presentation. In this workshop we'll be exploring digital storytelling and presentation tools. We'll cover how to use a wide range of web-based tools to present "stories" using a variety of digital media, how to find creative commons licensed media to include in presentations and look at ways to create more engaging presentations. These tools can be used in a variety of settings: student projects, library advocacy, gathering stories and local history from patrons and so much more.

Intermediate WordPress - Nov. 16th (MLSC)
In the basic "WordPress as a Content Management System" workshop you learned how to create Pages to display static content, use Posts to create a news page, select themes to make your site look great and  use widgets to create a sidebar of content for your library site.
In this session you'll learn much more about managing your own  installation of WordPress and customizing your library's WordPress
based web site. Topics will include: Tips on keeping your site secure and well maintained, Using the file editor to make minor edits to theme files. Customizing CSS to make simple changes to site. Great plugins that add great features to WordPress, New WordPress features including the Custom Menus options, Finding & installing themes and plugins, and How to work with Child Themes

Introduction to WordPress Websites - Nov. 17th (WLSC)
Looking for a simple way to have an attractive and useful web presence? One that is easy to maintain as well? Sound too good to be true? Come learn how it can be done with Wordpress. Wordpress is a content management system that lets you create and maintain a website without learning complex & expensive web development software. At the end of the workshop you'll be able to update your Wordpress website from any computer that has an internet connection. Not sure if you have Wordpress available to you? Check with your website hosting service, they'll be able to help you. There are also services that let you set up a Wordpress site for free. During this workshop we'll provide you with a temporary Wordpress website that you can use as a model for later development.

How Wordpress helps you organize your information
Setting up an easy to update page for news.
Changing the look of your site through the use of themes.
Options for letting people leave comments on your site.
Incorporating content from blogs, flickr and other services.
Adding media content on your pages.
And much more!

Connecticut Legal Research Strategies for Difficult Economic Times - Nov. 30th (MLSC)
 Description - This workshop concentrates on using the Internet in conjunction with the resources in your own library to perform efficient legal research. The emphasis will be on research topics that patrons may ask about in difficult economic times. We will look at the Connecticut Judicial Branch Law Libraries' website at http://www.jud.ct.gov/lawlib/ where over one-hundred research guides have been created to facilitate access to the law. You will learn how to locate case law, statutes, regulations, court rules, and administrative decisions. How to effectively search the Connecticut General Assembly website, Google Scholar, and other useful legal research websites will be addressed. We will also cover accessing public records, including civil, family, housing, and criminal docket information.

The workshop will include research strategies for the following topics:
Foreclosure
Debt Collection
Unemployment
