How do you manage the batteries? That has been my biggest challenge. My
students also love them, but maintenance has been though for me.

I have about 24 Playaways in my middle school library and can't keep
them on the shelf! They are very popular. When I first only had about
10, sometimes the waiting lists were 9-10 kids long! They have also
renewed interest for our books on CD and Tape.

I keep a print copy of the book on the shelf next to the audiobook so
they are checked out together. Teachers allow students to listen to the
books during their reading time only if they are following along in the
book.

I've purchased mine through Follett and also bought an extra set of the
earbuds cause they aren't the highest quality. Like John mentioned, most
kids have their own headphones but for sanitary reasons I keep a box of
baby wipes and wipe them down when they are returned.

Yvonne,
Back in 2007 we purchased 12 Playaways for assigned reading books in the
high school. We wrote a grant and purchased them for $630 from Recorded
Books. You can get them from Amazon or Follett, as well. Even though
we heavily promoted them to the English and SPED teachers, we have only
had a total of 16 circs. I think the kids would rather pay for a
download in iTunes for their iPods.
BTW, we don't give out earbuds, for sanitary reasons. The kids have
their own.

Do any of you in a school-library setting have Playaways or Playaway
Views?

How do you handle circulation for these types of devices?

Where do you buy your devices from?

Thanks for your help.
