Subject: [siglit] Literacy SIG Invites You to a Special Book Study

The Literacy Special Interest Group (ISTE) proudly invites you to participate in
its first Book Study. We'll be reading and discussing Teaching With Author
Websites, a book that explores the exciting ways Literacy learning is made fresh
and relevant through the use of abundantly available, user-friendly resources
developed by the authors of young peoples' books. Please join us! Details and
schedule below.

One of the authors of Teaching With Author Websites will participate directly in
the book study and has created a YouTube video to give an overview of the book:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjlrw10Tu8k
<https://mail.abington.k12.pa.us/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjlrw10Tu8k>

Involvement in the book study requires only that you read or browse through
several short chapters for each of 3 sessions and investigate some of the author
websites and related online resources - then, reflect on a few focus questions,
and (hopefully) post a reflection or a response to one on the book study
discussion board.

The first two sessions will be a-synchronous, in other words self-paced - within
the start and finish dates of the 2 week sessions. The third will be done as a
synchronous event, in which all participants and the author will convene online
for a live discussion of the book and our discoveries about how to implement its
concepts and resources in the classroom. Those who cannot attend the synchronous
meeting will be able to review a recording of the session and post their
reflections afterward.

Please let us know that you will be joining us for this exciting book-study
event by RSVP'ing to: BettyNeary at Abington.k12.pa.us
<mailto:BettyNeary at Abington.k12.pa.us>

You will be sent the URL of book-study discussion and information areas with
Focus Questions and Suggested Readings and Activities ahead of the book study
sessions.

All participants are requested to acquire a copy of the Teaching With Author
Websites a week before the book-study begins. You'll find links to the publisher
and Amazon below.
