Creating Effective Library Newsletters with Publisher - May 17th (WLSC)

Newsletters are a popular method to inform your community of the happenings at your library. In this day long workshop, we will discuss best design practices for printed newsletters, distribution options, and work with Microsoft Publisher to create a sample newsletter.

Prerequisite: You do not need prior experience with Publisher, though it is helpful. Familiarity with basic tools in Microsoft Word or other word processing software (Wordpad, Word Perfect, or Apple Works) is a must.

Connecticut State Agency Information on the Internet - May 22nd (MLSC)

Connecticut State Agency web sites can provide a great source of information and supplement your existing library collections. In this hands-on workshop you will explore numerous state agency web sites that can help you answer inquiries like:

Does the state owe me money?

Do I need a license for....

I want to start a small business

What do I have to do to start a raffle?

Are there endangered species in CT?

How do I contact my state representative?

If you are curious about a particular agency, email Nancy (Nancy.Peluso<http://mylist.net/listinfo/conntech> at ct.gov
with the subject line "Connecticut Agency Workshop" and she'll be sure to include it in the discussion.

Basic Book Repair: Tools & Techniques - May 24th (WLSC)<http://mylist.net/listinfo/conntech>

Would you like to save money by getting more uses per book? Would you like to keep that out-of-print book in circulation to meet your library patron's needs? Would you like to quickly repair the broken book spine that came in your new book shipment, rather than waiting for a replacement? Many repairs that can extend the life of your library collection are fast and simple, and can be done with easy-to-obtain, inexpensive materials. This workshop is appropriate for a library staff member or volunteer who will be doing book repair. Emphasis will be on simple repairs for the everyday public or school library collection, rather than on archival or long-term preservation techniques.<http://mylist.net/listinfo/conntech>
