[CASL-L] changing role advice

Hello all,

I'm currently teaching in a 3-6 school of almost 600 students with a fixed schedule (5-6 forty-five min. classes per day). Our pre-K to 2 school's LMS is retiring and the district will not be rehiring her position. Therefore, I will be overseeing 2 libraries next year, have over 900 students, and travel. We do not exactly know how my schedule will look, but administration has asked me to start gathering info from others who are between schools who manage more than one library to find out how you do your jobs day in and out. A full time para will be hired for each school to cover the prep time for teachers, but my principal mentioned she doesn't forsee me leaving them all day every day to cover by themselves.

In addition to a full time para in the library at each school, we have two full time IT guys who do our tech work. We also have a full time, non-certified Technology support (she let her cert lapse but has a Masters in Ed) who is already employed here that's been doing keyboarding and supports teachers when planning their tech lessons. I'm very concerned that the BOE will see one Librarian cut and see the heavy tech/para support we already have and wonder why I should keep my job. I'd like to create a cutting edge job description that the staff, administration, BOE, and parents will see as very necessary and useful, but different from what we already have.

I'd love to hear from other districts on how those who do not have a fixed schedule or those who manage more than one library do their jobs.

Here are just some of the questions I'm wondering as we create my new job description:

-Do you create lesson plans for your paras? Do paras do all grade levels or do you split? Do you paras do only book check out/read aloud?

-Do you spend a week in each school or travel daily?

-Do you do inventory at each school every year?

-What are your main job responsibilites?

-Are you pulled for duties/coverages since you are not fixed?

-Are teachers free to work with you at their convenience or do you create a schedule to get to everyone?

-When do you collaborate with staff?/ Are you able to attend gr. level meetings?

I know this is a busy time of year and I have plenty of time to research, but would really like to be prepared. Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide!

Happy holidays,
