[CASL-L] Refunds for lost books later found

It has been many years since we were permitted to hold report cards until a lost book payment was received. Other penalties are now invoked under administrative policy.

For many years we were able to accept payment ourselves (money deposited in Media Center Lost Books account handled with other accounts by HS office), to issue a receipt and issue a refund out of our account at any time the book was returned... even if in later years.

A policy and procedure change resulted in HS office staff handling ALL accountabilities. Any money received for Media Center books is still deposited in the MC Lost Books account (which may be used for purchasing new materials).

If a lost book is found and returned with the receipt for payment....even if years later, our HS office DOES issue a refund.

Hi! I only return money if the book is found within the school year. (And only if the student brings the book back.)

Hi everyone:

In the past, students who lost a library book would have to pay for it or their report card would be withheld. When we received the money, our policy has always been that if they found the book, the money would be reimbursed. I was informed today by our business manager that they changed the handbook (I wasn't consulted or informed) and all payments for books are nonrefundable. They will no longer issue refund checks. Even though they appear to be unyielding on this, I am wondering how many schools have a non-refundable policy? I am very much against this for many reasons, but perhaps I am alone in my feelings about this. Just looking for some feedback.
