Sara,
I think you need to decide what the most common use of the mobile device would be. If you have a big presence of Google apps (aka Drive) and there is not much use of (iOS or Droid) apps, you might look at Chromebooks.
However, if you want to use the 200k+ (of 700k, total) educational and productivity apps--go with the iPad.
You can still access most of the Google functions on an iPad. We have been using iPads in classes and circulate them out of the LMC, since the spring of 2010. We are up to over 200 that we lend to students and staff. Since 2010, one has needed to be sent back to Apple. They replaced it within a week.

I have no experience with Nexus. I know it is not considered as secure as the iPad, within the IT environment. Also, its app marketplace is not as big and varied at the Apple app store.

Subject: [CASL-L] HS going BYOD

Hello!
Our district is going BYOD in January! Since our demographics are such that not all students have their own devices, we are looking to purchase some for loan.
Does anyone have experience with this?
Do you have particular devices you might recommend--or not? Up for consideration by IT are iPad mini, Nexus, and Chromebooks.

If you have other tips for the transition, please share, on or off the list!
Thanks,
Sara
