LSTA Outcome Based Evaluation – Feb. 14th (WLSC), Feb. 17th (MLSC), Feb. 29th (MLSC)
This 1.5 hour session will focus on instructing attendees about outcome-based evaluation as it relates to Connecticut's LSTA grant writing process. Attendance is not required but is strongly suggested. The class is in PowerPoint format. Participants will receive handouts. LSTA Grant Basics – Feb. 14th (WLSC), Feb. 17th (MLSC), Feb. 29th (MLSC)
 Attending a session of this workshop is required in order for a library to submit an application for an LSTA grant. The 3.5 hour session focuses on explaining Connecticut's LSTA grant writing procedures as they apply to the 2012-2013 cycle, including:

*Explanations and expectations for each of the six Program Grant categories;
*Coverage of the Part B Requirements;
*Best practices;
*Examples of successful past projects;
*Discussion of strategies and approaches to LSTA grant writing;

Attendees will come away with a sense of what grant reviewers seek when reviewing LSTA applications in a general sense as well as information specific to each particular category. Business Resources for Librarians – Feb. 15th (MLSC)
Do you feel comfortable answering questions like:

*I need to find what Nynex stock was worth on June 21, 1985?
*Can I start a piano school in my home?
*I’ve got a job interview tomorrow and I need to research the XY Z Company?
*I’m starting a day care business and want to know how many families with working parents there are in Bristol and Torrington?

If you answered, NO, this workshop is for you!

During this half-day workshop, you’ll learn about a core group of free or readily available tools that will help you answer the most common business reference questions. You’ll have a chance to practice answering real-world business questions using these tools during this hands-on workshop. This basic introduction to business terminology and resources is geared towards new and non-business librarians.

Federal Information on the Internet – Feb. 22nd (MLSC)
Federal web sites are a rich, accurate, and timely resource for many reference questions. Please attend this hands-on workshop where you’ll practice using terrific federal search engines and explore free agency web sites that can supplement your reference collections.

Tips and Tricks to Using Your Public Library’s Statistics Effectively – Feb. 23rd (MLSC)
A library’s use of statistics is essential for both evaluation of service and for advocacy, but using statistics is not always easy. This workshop will help librarians identify which library statistics to use, where to find them, and how to present them. This is partly a workshop on using statistics resources available from the State Library and partly a workshop on using Microsoft Excel specifically for presenting library statistics.

Find out how to:
•Identify statistics that are meaningful when evaluating your library or when comparing your library to others
•Make Excel charts do what you want
•Use and manipulate charts for effective advocacy
•Make the Statistical Profile of CT Public Libraries and the Automatic Chart-Makers work for you
•Find other useful library statistics from the State Library’s Web pages
