Beyond Words: The Dollar General School Library Relief Fund, administered by the American Library Association (ALA), supports public school libraries in the communities served by Dollar General in forty states, including the states most affected by Hurricane Sandy. The Fund provides grants of $10,000 to $20,000 to preK-12 public schools whose school library programs have been affected by a natural disaster, fire, or an act of terrorism. Schools that have absorbed a significant number (more than 10% of enrollment) of displaced/evacuee students are also eligible to apply. Grants are intended to help replace or supplement books, media, and/or library equipment. Eligible applicants must be located within 20 miles of a Dollar General store, distribution center, or corporate office<blocked::http://www.dollargeneral.com/storeLocator/index.jsp>. Grant applications are accepted on an ongoing basis and are reviewed monthly. Visit the ALA website to submit an online application.
