Librarians – Get your Geek on! Register Now for NYCC 2012!

The American Library Association will be presenting and exhibiting at New York
Comic Con (NYCC), October 11 -14, 2012 at the Javits Center in New York. NYCC is
the East Coast's biggest and most exciting popular culture convention. The Show
Floor plays host to the latest and greatest in comics, graphic novels, anime,
manga, video games, toys, movies and television. ALA will present three
programs for the library community and comic industry professionals during the
Professional Day, Thursday, October 11: “Library as Mythic Oracle”, “The
Possibilities of a Cape and Mask - How to Incorporate Superheroes into Public
Library Programming” and “Foolproof Graphic Novel Collection Development.”
NYCC has generously extended free passes for all library staff members on
Professional Day (Thursday, October 11) and the Show Floor will be open from
3:00 PM – 9:00 PM only to librarians, educators and other industry members.
Please visit www.newyorkcomiccon.com/ALA where you'll be able to register for a
completely free badge for Thursday. If you'd like to attend all weekend long, a
badge is only $10. (Please note: Professional Passes do not guarantee seating
and do not include admission into any ticketed Special Events. Special Events
tickets must be purchased separately.) The deadline to register as a
Professional for NYCC is this Friday, September 14 at 11:59 PM EDT.
While you’re at the show, please plan to stop by ALA’s exhibit booth #3153 to
say hello and to pick up more information about integrating games, comics and
graphic novels into your collections and programming. We’ll also have
information on how ALA Members can get involved with ALA’s new Gaming Roundtable
and the Graphic Novels in Libraries Member Initiative Group.

The growing lists of NYCC Guests include: Ann Rice, Kim Harrison, Robert
Kirkman, top Marvel Creators, Adam West & Burt Ward, Bill Paxton, Christopher
Lloyd, Seth Green, Sean Astin, Peter Davison and even Elmo! Be sure to check
out www.NewYorkComicCon.com for the most up to date Guest Announcements.

For your customers and patrons, NYCC sponsors a “Kids Day” on Sunday, October
14, the final day of the show. Children and tweens under 12 will receive free
passes and are welcome to attend the show and literary programs at no cost on
Sunday. NYCC will support this in your library with posters, bookmarks and
pins. If you'd like to make Kids Day available through your library please
email Samantha Grimaldi at sgrimaldi at reedexpo.com. She will be happy to send
you all the information and material to share this free event with your
community.

We hope to see you in New York at our booth, during the Professional Day and
throughout NYCC.

Thanks,
