[CASL-L] Evaluation

Hi to all,

I will speak to some people at the state level in a week, when I meet with a PEAC subcommittee group on recommendations for the pilot evaluation. I've been representing CASL on this committee of specialists, who don't fall under teachers, even though in many cases, we do teach. I am recommending all of AASL job description, evaluation, and standards tools as the basis for our evaluation.

I will keep CASL members up to date on the progress made. We are an advisory group to PEAC, and we have been meeting since last spring. I presented my work at a June CASL public meeting to get everyone up to speed, and I will continue to let everyone know what the next step is. This is the first meeting since the end of the school year.

The idea is great, and I'll see what I can find out.

Thanks,

Mary Ellen

I think this is a fabulous idea. And at some point add the administrators who will be evaluating us. In 25 years as a school librarian, in a variety of settings, there are only one or two times when I felt that I was truly being evaluated according to the parameters of my job and the way I performed it. This is an opportunity for the Powers that Be to get it right, give us a solid and clear rubric, and train administrators to use it fairly.

I have cc'd our vice president. Perhaps she can convey your request to the right person at the state.

There may be an opportunity for all or some of you to get together at the conference next month?

Can CASL get together with the state and have the LMS from all the schools participating in the SEED pilot meet to discuss LMS evaluation under the new system?

Hmm, sounds like an unconference possibility at the conference next month. I'm sure we can find a time & place to get together and just share thoughts & strategies.

My school is also participating in the pilot this year – we only have 1 school in the district and I’m the only LMS – would love ANY input anyone can provide – feeling a bit lost.

Haven't read the book yet, but I know that our CASL vice president, Mary Ellen Minichiello, is working with the state on specifics for our profession. I have cc'd her so that she can also respond. It should work well with AASL national standards since they align with the Common Core. See the Common Core Crosswalk<http://www.ala.org/aasl/guidelinesandstandards/commoncorecrosswalk> which explains the alignment in detail.

Any idea if it also ties in with Connecticut's forthcoming teacher evaluation rubrics (for which, if I understand correctly, they're still working on the teacher librarian piece)? My district is a pilot for the new evaluation procedure.
