Dear Colleagues,
For the Fall 2013 semester, Capital Community College, located in Hartford, Connecticut is offering the following courses as part of its Library Technical Assistant Program. There are still spaces in the following courses. Courses can be taken for professional development as well as enrolling in the certificate or degree program. Detailed instructions concerning how to use the course schedule online are available on page 2 of the Fall 2013 course enrollment guide which is available at http://www.ccc.commnet.edu/docs/Fall2013enrollmentguide.pdf. This online schedule will tell when courses will meet.
Introduction to Library Public Services (LIB 101). Course begins Tuesday September 3. This course is only offered in Fall semesters . Course is listed in the online course search system under Library Technical Assistant.
Tuesday 7:00 pm-9:42 pm.

This course prepares the student to work in public service areas, including circulation, interlibrary loan and reference service.
Supervised Field Placement (LIB 202).
Day and Time: TBA

This course is a supervised on-the-job experience in a public, academic, school or special library that will reinforce knowledge acquired in the classroom. Prerequisite: Both LIB 101 and LIB 102 must be completed before enrolling. Also, permission of the LTA Program Coordinator is required. Introduction to Visual Communication (COM 105). This course is only offered in the Fall semesters. Course begins Thursday August 29. Course is listed in the online course search system under Communication and Speech.
Thursday 5:30 pm-8:12 pm.
Instructor: Catherine P. Erik-Soussi
Visual communication is the process of organizing, designing, and creating messages in print and multimedia form that meet specific purposes and practical needs. This course introduces students to that process, reflecting the elements of structured content, form, media, and audience characteristics, while also introducing them to common electronic tools used in visual message creation. Students apply these principles in the production process while designing and developing their own projects using instructional audiovisual media hardware and software.
Web Design and Development (CST 150). This course was previously called Electronic Publishing for the World Wide Web CIS 150. Course began Wednesday August 28. Course is listed in the online course search system under Computers-Technology.
Days and Times:. Monday and Wednesday 10:05 am-11:26 am.
Instructor: Seth Freeman
Students will learn to create HTML documents, format text, add graphics and multimedia to web pages and create online forms. Students also learn how to work with tables, control page layouts, design web pages and scripting for HTML. Emphasis is hands on practice designed to produce a working HTML coded home page with features such as links, images, color and text.
Introduction to Software Applications (CSA 105). This course was previously called Using Microcomputers CIS 105. Course is listed in the online course search system under Computers-Applications.
Day and Time: Day, and evening sessions are offered. It is also offered online.
This course teaches the use of microcomputers as an office productivity tool. It covers creating and editing word processing documents, spreadsheets and computerized visual presentations. Currently, the Microsoft Office software products Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are being taught in depth. Besides office productivity tools, this course covers file management using the Microsoft Windows operating system.
Composition (ENG 101). This course was previously called English Composition ENG 101. Course is listed in the online course search system under English.
Day and Time: Day, evening and Saturday sessions are offered. It is also offered online.
This course covers the study of writing and the writing process. Students analyze expository and/or literary works and prepare essays with attention to unity, organization, support and development.
Prerequisite: (a) Level III scores on both writing and reading placement tests; or (b) successful completion of English 043.
Classes began Wednesday August 28 , 2013. Returning students can register online. Extended registration hours are Thursday August 29 from 8 am-6 pm, Friday August 30 from 9 am-3 pm and Tuesday September 3 from 9 am- 6 pm.
