The General Sessions at the AASL 16th National Conference & Exhibition will prepare you to "rise to the challenges" of your career and your life! The opening general session with Tony Wagner will set the stage for two days of gathering information, tools, and tips and the closing general session with Peter Bregman will empower attendees with the work management skills necessary to get everything done.

The conference, themed “Rising to the Challenge,” will be held November 14-17, 2013, in Hartford, CT. The AASL national conference is the only national conference dedicated solely to the needs of school librarians and their roles as educational leaders. Don't miss out, register now!
Opening General Session with Tony Wagner
Sponsored by Cable in the Classroom

In his 2008 book The Global Achievement Gap, Tony writes, “in today’s highly competitive global knowledge economy, all students need new skills for college, careers and citizenship. To fail to give all students these new skills leaves today’s youth-and our country-at an alarming competitive disadvantage.”
Tony Wagner brings to AASL13 more than 25 years of education consulting experience focused on creating strategies to improve learning for all students. Currently the first Innovation Education Fellow at the Technology & Entrepreneurship Center at Harvard, his previous work experience includes twelve years as a high school teacher, K-8 principal, university professor in teacher education, and founding executive director of Educators for Social Responsibility.

Closing General Session with Peter Bregman

“Yesterday started with the best of intentions. I walked into my office in the morning with a vague sense of what I wanted to accomplish. Then I sat down, turned on my computer, and checked my email. Two hours later...I could hardly remember what I had set out to accomplish when I first turned on my computer."
This admission, written in a blog post for the Harvard Business Review, became the basis for Peter's book, 18 Minutes: Find Your Focus, Master Distraction, and Get the Right Things Done. The CEO of Bregman Partners, Inc., a global management consulting firm that advises organizations and their leadership teams, Peter speaks, writes and consults about how to lead and how to live.
