Subject: [aaslforum] Request from the ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom
Dear Friends:
The ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom is working to finalize our numbers for
2012 challenges and our annual list of most frequently challenged books. We
collect information for our challenge database from both media reports and
those submitted by individuals and, while we know that many challenges are
never reported, we strive to be as comprehensive as possible. In 2012 we have
amped up our efforts with Sweater Vest Sunday and other work to publicize our
challenge reporting campaign, so we are hopeful that our 2012 numbers will
show an increase in reporting numbers!
We would greatly appreciate if you could send us any information on challenges
in your state or region that you are aware of from 2012, and if you could share
this message with others in your network(s) who might also be aware of
challenges to report. The final deadline for reporting 2012 challenges to OIF
is Friday, March 1, 2013.
Challenges reported to ALA by individuals are kept confidential and we can
cross-check your report with existing entries in the database to avoid
duplications. You may report challenges by filling out and submitting the
database form available in a variety of formats at
www.ala.org/challengereporting, or you may simply email me (amaycock at ala.org)
the details of the incident and I can fill out a form on your behalf. If you
have any questions at all, please let me know.
Many thanks again for all of your help and support! Please be in touch with any
questions or concerns.
