Subject: [aaslforum] Free workshops for librarians on services to students with
disabilities
In 2011, 42 3-person educator teams, led by the school librarian, participated
in Project ENABLE (Expanding Non-discriminatory Access By Librarians Everywhere)
summer workshops on providing effective library and information services and
programs to preK-12 students with disabilities. On November 15, 2012, the
Project ENABLE training Web site went live. Since that time more than 32,000
unique visitors have visited the site. The self-paced, multimedia online
training is free but registration is required.
Today, we announce that applications are now available for the 2013 Project
ENABLE summer workshops, held on the Syracuse University campus. Each librarian
applicant is responsible for assembling a collaborative team including a general
educator and special educator from his/her school or district. Once a team is
assembled, all team members must complete their specific workshop application at
http://projectenable.syr.edu/WORKSHOPS/Applications in order to be considered.
The project will cover each team’s travel, housing and meals for all three team
members while in Syracuse attending a workshop. The workshops cover disability
awareness, school disability law, Universal Design, accessible and inclusive
learning environments, IEP awareness, and much more. If selected, each
librarian leader must be willing to commit to delivering one 1-3 hour workshop
to colleagues in his/her home district or region sometime during the 2013-14
school year.
Complete team registrations are due by Feb. 22, 2013. A panel will be
assembled in late February to select 30 teams to participate in the Project
ENABLE workshops. All applicants will be notified early in March. Workshops
will be held June 22-26 and August 5-9.
If you have any questions, contact us at cdl at syr.edu
Project ENABLE is funded by grants from the Institute of Museum & Library
Services.
