[CASL-L] RE: video streaming

I've subscribed to Discovery Ed (DE) for several years and my staff really loves it. My newest favorite way to use DE is to have it linked to our Destiny catalog. Now when a teacher does a search in Destiny, the available resources within DE (and other databases I linked) show up in the One Search tab as a direct link.

Windsor just subscribed to Discovery Ed streaming district-wide this year because it was already available (in a supplemental way) for the secondary level. However, we pushed out accounts to everyone in the district this past fall. So far, the response from staff has been lackluster. But we haven't provided much PD around it yet. (It's on the to-do list!) But I am also interested in any strategies districts have used to encourage teachers to use this pretty spectacular resource.

We also listened to Safari Montage. They also have a great product. But it was going to cost us a bit less to just expand what we had with Discovery Ed this school year. That doesn't mean in the future that we won't switch. Right now, we just want people to use the subscription services we do have!

If I could jump in here, I love the products available through DiscoveryEducation and for the first time subscribed this year. I have having a very difficult time persuading my faculty that it's worth their while to establish their accounts and use the resource. They tend to fall back on YouTube clips or other free resources like HistoryChannel.com. Any advice you may have on successfully promoting the use of the for-pay streaming video products would also be extremely helpful.

Do you own the content or are you looking at subscription services, such as Curriculum Video on Demand or Discovery?

Does anyone have any experience with video streaming that they would be willing to share? We are exploring integrating a system in to Media Services - such as VBrick.
