PhD Fellowship
Florida State University – PALM Center
The Florida State University PALM Center, located in the School of Library and
Information Studies and College of Communication and Information, is soliciting
applications for a 2-year (5 semesters) Ph.D. fellowship beginning in August
2013 and ending in April 2015. This fellowship is based on the Florida State
University campus in Tallahassee, Florida.
The fellow will assist in an Institute of Museum and Library Services grant,
Project PALS, which is designed to develop and improve information services to a
group of underserved patrons - those on the autism spectrum (ASD) who reside in
rural areas. The fellow will assist in project implementation of four online
professional development modules for librarians and be expected to conduct
research for their dissertation as he/she takes part in the project. The fellow
will be chosen for his/her research capacity and interest in
autism/disabilities. The fellow will be expected to take 9 credits in
coursework in Communication Science and Disorders (COMSD) during the project
period as part of their doctoral program. Doctoral program specifics can be

The Fellowship includes:
• A 20 hour per week position as a Research Fellow for the Institute of Museum
and Library Services (IMLS) funded project, Project PALS (Panhandle Autism
Library Services)
• A stipend of $21,000 in year one; $14,000 in year two
• Tuition for 27 credits in year one; 18 credits in year two
• Participation in a community of scholars at the FSU PALM (Partnerships
Advancing Library Media) Center, the Autism Institute, the College of
Communication and Information, the School of Library and Information Studies,
and the FSU campus
• Opportunities supporting scholarly presentations at conferences

deadline for applications is June 1, 2013. This is a relatively short
turnaround time due to the grant award just being announced. In addition to the
University application, please send an essay describing your interest and
qualifications in the study of persons with autism and library services to Dr.
