[CASL-L] High school slo's

Original question-

Has anyone created a SLO related to the portion of their job<http://ctcasl.ning.com/forum/topics/high-school-slo-s> that is not directly related to "teaching classes"? For example - reading promotion, access to information 24 hours a day, etc.

Thanks.

Yes.

On the other hand, I'm swimming in my own sea, as I have no dept. guidance.

My Math department head just suggested I use the tech I am sharing with teachers. That seems harder to document but she insisted that data doesn't need to be scores--and she's a math teacher!

I'll be curious to see the CEA webinars posted the other day.

I think it might be hard to fill out required info on Bloomboard, if you are using that. Curious how it goes for you.

I was thinking of doing one TRAILS assessment and one circulation of non-fiction books for grades 11-12 (SSCC).

Did you see the White Paper from SEED on librarians? Attached. Seems it would support your efforts

"I was told that was not allowed. My adminstrators told me that it had to be directly measurable and observable in Student performance in short term. So, even though I don't have students of my own in a H.S., I have to team with the FRESHMAN HISTORY TEACHERS and use their students for one goal and then use either Junior or Senior English Classes for a second goal related to research."

In late September, I had pre-tested the entire Freshmen History Class broken into 12 classes (3 teachers each teaching 4 freshman classes). I used the KENT STATE TRAILS pre-assessment for 9th graders. After seeing the results of their skills levels. I am choosing to focus on the "SELECTION AND EVALUATION of RESOURCES" component since that and "TOPIC STATEMENTS" (which our freshman english teachers are supposedly focusing on) are the two areas of LOWEST SCORES/KNOWLEDGE/SUCCESS. I will continue to meet/team teach with the 9th grade history classes, when they do research components. For example, next week, I will be working for several days with 4 Freshman Classes as they start a project the teacher designed on the SCIENTIFIC REVOLUTION.

Sure, if you think it will be helpful. I've actually modified the PLO since then to evaluating how the nonfiction print and digital collection supports curriculum/CCSS because I figured then we could use weeding print collection as evidence and we could use our purchase of Overdrive (they are waiving platform fees for the month of November!!) as evidence.

Hi David,

Our high schools created a common PLO re collection development in order to evaluate how nonfiction databases support the curriculum and CCSS.

Thanks,

No, but if you come up with something please share!! As a high school librarian, I do not "teach" the same group of kids on a regular basis. I was told that the one time workshops I do with a lot of the classes here do not count since I have no way of tracking their progress, and that I could also not use reading promotion, author events, etc. because I needed a consistent group of kids to track. I now have to co-teach with one of the English teachers just so that I can have a group of students to work with. I would love to see how other high school librarians are handling this. I have sent out emails to the listserv, but only ever heard back from elementary & middle school librarians who teach "library" as a special and therefore have a group of kids to work with.

Thanks,

Deb Sharpe
