I would start by asking Brookfield and Glastonbury High Schools.

Subject: [CASL-L] One to One Device to Students

Our school is the planning stage of providing a laptop/tablet device to each incoming first year student for the 2014-15 school year. Please consider answering some questions if you have already implemented something similar.

Have you provided a class for incoming students on how to use the device? The course might also include information literacy, using web based tools, etc. Who is responsible for teaching this course? How often does the course meet during the semester and what is the length of the class period? Who developed the curriculum for the course?

Did you purchase extra devices for those days when students forget or damage the device? How many extras and where are they stored?

Did you decide to charge and annual protection plan fee to parents? How much? What did you decide about cases… students purchase or district provides?

Are students allowed to download apps? How did you set this up?

Any other thoughts and/or suggest are appreciated.

Thanks,
Julie
