Hey-We piloted Chromebooks here this year via the Library Media Center ; not one to one but they were used in that manner by many classroom teachers - Chromebooks are a great device for education! and in many ways were fantastic but there were a few areas that I would have planned out differently in advance had I known what to expect. For instance, because the device works as it is designed with a user who has a Google account in order to fully utilize the features of the apps and the Google drive, is your school a Google Apps school? If not, it really needs to be. As LMC you could become the Google Apps administrator for your school. Along a similar vein, has your school decided who will be the administrator for the Chromebook management software? This is an invaluable product as it allows you to manage the settings and push apps through to every single Chromebook in the school/district. From there, you could fill the devices with LMC apps and any other apps that classroom teachers would like to use with their students (for instance; the OPAC; any online encylopedias you have; etc)

As far as issues to anticipate, a major issue that arose here involves printing; have you thought about if/how the students will print from the Chromebooks? Your LMC could purchase and configure a cloud enabled printer, which would allow students to print from the LMC from any part of the building. Another issue that has not arisen here but that I expect to next year when we have 1:1 Thinkpads is the charging of devices. In a 1:1 STUDENTS are responsible for making sure their devices stay charged but this will definitely not always happen. The LMC could buy a charging cart or a number of charging cords to create a charging station so that students are able to charge their devices while in school. I just purchased a chromebook cord from Amazon for about $15.00.

You are not that far from me and if you'd ever like to come by to discuss anything further I'd be happy to meet with you F2F!

Looking for advice and suggestions on the role of the library media specialist in a middle school that has one to one Chromebooks for all students. We are looking to make changes to the existing library and are curios if anyone else is in a similar situation.
