[CASL-L] RE: virtual reference collection

We love our GVRL.

We started more than 5-7 years ago years ago with a 3 year buy in deal for CT & RI School Libraries. We paid 1/3 of the cost each year. It ended up being $10,000 total for the base collection at that time ... we used to spend $ 3000. per year or more (THIS year they froze us in August so not this year) on GALE reference titles so this was a terrific deal and we had been able to buy many print and ebooks at 50% specials that added to our collection.

But even though I have a budget freeze this year, and even though ICONN dropped GALE, my students and teachers still have access to all our purchased resources from the last 5 to 7 years. So it has been a good collection development plan.

They also still have the AML (At My Library) APP for IPOD, IPAD, & Android devices. We ordered the FREE GALE AML Bookmarks and I pass them out at OPEN HOUSE and have them at the Library SIGN IN DESK. I also have instructions on the School Library website telling them how to add that app and the DESTINY APP.

I like the fact that we can view all our GALE EBOOK resources with the AML APP.

My teachers who actually have iPADS for themselves or their students have said they like having the GVRL bookshelf to use in their classrooms because with the APP for IPAD it lists all our ebook resources from GALE on what looks like bookshelves.

Subject: [CASL-L] virtual reference collection

We are looking at building a virtual reference library to replace outdated materials and increase access. We do have some e-books from Follett that offer unlimited access, but are also looking at the Gale Virtual Reference Library collection. This would be a sizable financial investment for us.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks for your help,
