[CASL-L] Keyboarding Software Survey Responses

Thanks to those of you who completed the survey. Your responses were
helpful to us in conjunction with other information we compiled. As
promised, I am attached the results.

We have been using the Type to Learn products and needed to select
something new for the following reasons:


   - Type to Learn New Keys for Kids requires Windows XP and is not
   supported by the current operating system (Windows 7)
   - Windows XP reached end-of-support in April 2014 so the district will
   not be able to maintain XP machines
   - Type to Learn 4 is available either as a CD-ROM or a web-enabled
   client application which requires a one-time download and installation on
   each machine which is labor intensive and not cost effective
   - *T*he vendor does not offer a web-based product

Based on the survey responses and some calls to other districts we compiled
information on the following programs:


   - EduTyping
   - Keyboarding Online
   - Typing Club
   - Typing Pal
   - Typing Web

EduTyping, Keyboarding Online, and Typing Club exceed the current budget we
have for a keyboarding program. This leaves Typing Pal and Typing web for
our review.
