Good Morning!
I am excited and proud to represent CASL, CECA and Colchester at Governor Malloy's CCSS Task Force table. I plan on advocating for ALL schools to employ a full-time certified Librarian from a quality program, in every library, paired with a full-time technology specialist. These two positions, working on a mixed schedule, in a well funded library, would provide guidance, resources, and skills that I hear teachers asking (if not begging) for.
Not only do these educators support CCSS and their implementation and evaluation, but are "uniquely positioned to influence and implement many of the school-wide goals and initiatives to ensure that all students are college and career ready because they work across grade levels and across the disciplines."(Resources)
I will be attending the first meeting next week, and have hopes to provide updates to you as our work progresses. I feel confident that attending these meetings armed with research and statistics collected by the ALA and AASL, I can get this vital message heard.
Please feel free to contact me with any additional information you feel relevant or important to bring to the table.
Finally a special thank you to Mansfield University, PA and their School Library & Information Technologies Graduate Program for giving me the confidence, knowledge and resources I need to take my seat at the table next week!
Respectfully,
Barbara Johnson
